BACKYARD ASIA's latest film acquisitions

Fire of Vengeance

EDIT: this German tape isn't DEADLY ANGELS STRIKE BACK as I first posted!! I got the info from the German data base IDFB but this tape contains FIRE OF VENGEANCE which is an entirely different film!!! Somebody needs to correct the faulty info at OFDB!!!

And in further, related news...

I recently won this very-very-very rare US/Puerto Rican VHS release of 5 DEADLY ANGELS (incidentally the release I DIDN'T get in post #368!!). I already have the Dutch VHS but the chance of getting the only other English dubbed release was too good to pass by.

I haven't watched the tape yet but I knew the German tape is missing one scene, a "main female character cheers up a friend by singing a happy song on the beach" scene so I checked the new tape for that scene right away. And quite surprisingly it's also missing from the American tape!! I always figured it was just the Germans who didn't find this amusing. The Dutch tape is uncut.

And one more thing, the NTSC tape is recorded in the lousy EP speed. I never understood why the bloody hell American video labels used this crappy speed at all. Neither LP nor EP was ever used for factory recorded tapes in Europe. Anyway, it's cool to have the tape but it'll be the ol'e Dutch vhs I'll be watching when I pull out the film again from time to time. LOL.

  1. Those slower speed tapes were always cheaper. Anywhere from $5 to $10. Every once in a while you'd come across an SP tape for $10 or so.

  2. The SP tapes where cheaper? Really? But that doesn't make sense as the quality is better with the SP tapes. o_O

  4. Hey Tom,

Thanks, mate! Yeah, that's a very cool cover. Too bad it's a bootleg. I wonder if ANYBODY has a copy of the real tape anymore. o.O

  5. Jack - There's also a English dubbed Greek release on the "Zita Video" label. I have a copy here on my desk. Also, to clarify the earlier comment from venoms5: EP (Extended Play)is much slower speed than SP (Standard Play). More info here: http://www.ehow.com/info_8458327_speeds-available-vcrs.html

  6. Sorry, Jack. I'm just now seeing this.

I am of course aware that EP is slower than SP, which is stated in my response.

Yes, some, not all SP tapes in the local K Mart's and Roses stores were that cheap, but I bought quite a lot of them for $9.95 back in the mid to late 80s with my allowance money. Not sure if the stores knew they were SP or what, but these were not big releases. I remember my first SP tape my mom bought me was DAWN OF THE DEAD and it was $20 at K Mart at that time.

  7. I think the mistake was actually mine. LOL. But in any case, thanks for the info about the Greek VHS, buddy (I assume you're Mark, yeah?). Do you remember if the Greek tape has the scene where the girls do a musical number? It's not really a "song and dance scene" as there's no dancing (haha) but they do sing an Info track for a couple of minutes.
